India Tourism Minister Says Netflix, Google Partnerships Can 'Create Wonders'

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Wednesday that the Ministry of Tourism's partnerships with private entities like Netflix, Google, YouTube, and Air India can 'create wonders' in promoting Indian tourist destinations.
Speaking at an event at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, which also marked Netflix's ten years in India, Shekhawat highlighted the potential of such collaborations. Last year, on World Tourism Day, the ministry signed a non-commercial MoU with Netflix Entertainment Services India to promote tourism globally through cinematic storytelling. Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos, visiting India, joined Shekhawat for a fireside chat on storytelling's role in promoting India's cultural heritage and creative economy.
Shekhawat, who holds both culture and tourism portfolios, said films and platforms like Netflix can play a pivotal role in taking India's stories to the world. The event also saw the launch of an 'As Seen on Netflix' section on the 'Incredible India' portal, developed under the collaboration.
