This page explains how ZayNews handles copyright, attribution, and rights requests for news briefs.
1. Nature of our briefs
Each ZayNews item is a very short editorial brief with mandatory source attribution (outlet name + outbound URL). Length is capped so the brief cannot replace the original article (about 10% of source words, and never more than 80 words).
The same brief may appear in up to 13 interface languages. That is a translation of our brief, not a translation or republication of the source article.
Where automated drafting is used, output is constrained to facts present in the source, capped to that extract length, and cleaned of source-page chrome (ads, comment widgets, “related story” blocks).
2. Attribution
Readers always see the original source on the story page. Sharing features include the ZayNews URL; the story page itself retains the source link.
3. Images and video
Cover images, when shown, come only from the publisher’s RSS / Media RSS (we do not scrape article-page photographs or re-host stock libraries). We do not crop or erase copyright-management marks. We do not embed unconfirmed RSS video. If media fails, is unsuitable, or a rights holder objects, we disable the display and show a brand fallback — we do not invent images.
A hotlink is not a licence. Displaying a publisher photograph does not mean ZayNews owns or licenses that photograph. A media-only notice disables the cover and leaves the brief published.
4. Notice and takedown
If you are a rights holder and believe a brief or media display infringes your rights, use the form on this page, email copyright@zaynews.com or legal@zaynews.com, or POST https://api.zaynews.com/api/v1/legal/notice with: (1) your contact email, (2) the ZayNews URL or story ID, (3) the original work URL, and (4) a good-faith statement of your claim (at least 40 characters). You may ask for a media-only action (cover off, brief stays) or a full withdrawal.
A complete notice immediately applies the requested action: media-only can disable cover/media; a full notice unpublishes matching stories (withdrawn, not deleted), clears public text, evicts caches, and refreshes public pages and the sitemap. We also review notices at the rights desk within 72 hours. Incomplete or abusive notices may be declined.
This process is provided for operational compliance worldwide; it does not waive any defenses available under applicable law.
5. Rights desk (designated channel)
The ZayNews Rights Desk is the public designated channel for copyright and related-rights notices worldwide, including notices from the United States: copyright@zaynews.com (also legal@zaynews.com). Use this page’s form or POST https://api.zaynews.com/api/v1/legal/notice. A machine-readable desk card is at https://api.zaynews.com/api/v1/legal/desk.
We do not claim a listing in the US Copyright Office designated-agent directory, and we do not claim a DMCA §512 safe harbor for our own editorial briefs. A physical mailing address for formal statutory notices is provided on written request to the rights desk.
6. Trademarks
Outlet names and logos remain the property of their owners and appear for identification and attribution only.
Submit a rights notice
Use this form if you are a rights holder. We do not need an account. Email is used only to handle the notice.
