Underlining that a support payment of 35 lira per piece was made for the spotted puffer fish, which is the most harmful of the 8 puffer fish species found in the country's territorial waters, and 10 lira for other species, Türkyılmaz emphasized that the 2026 purchase limit of 200 thousand pieces set for other puffer fish species was filled in a short time due to the intense interest of fishermen. Thereupon, reminding that the support amounts and the limit of 100 thousand pieces for spotted puffer fish were maintained by the Presidential Decree, Türkyılmaz stated that the purchase amount for other species was increased from 200 thousand to 1 million.
Stating that each puffer fish was counted and received, Türkyılmaz said: "In 6 years, 665 thousand puffer fish were removed from the ecosystem. 276 thousand of these are the spotted puffer fish, the most harmful species. In this context, approximately 13 million lira support payment was made to our fishermen with its current value. According to scientific calculations, thanks to puffer fish hunting, approximately 50 million new puffer fish were prevented from joining the ecosystem."
