Istanbul caused transportation disruptions

Thunderstorms and occasional hailstorms in Istanbul caused transportation disruptions and floods. In Şile, where 57 kilograms of precipitation per square meter was recorded, weather conditions are expected to continue with strong winds until the evening hours. Following the warnings of the General Directorate of Meteorology, heavy rainfall in some regions of the city caused difficult times for the citizens.

On the European Side, the downpour had its effect in Küçükçekmece, Beşiktaş, Bakırköy, Bahçelievler, Sultangazi and Şişli districts. Drivers had difficulty moving through traffic on the D-100 highway. The rain, which caused some underpasses to flood, gave way to hail in some districts.

On the Anatolian Side, the showers continue to show their effects intermittently in Üsküdar, Sancaktepe, Pendik and Kartal since the morning hours. Pollution in the sea was observed due to the rain on Kartal Beach. Water accumulated on the roads caused difficult times for both citizens and drivers. Those caught unprepared for the rain took shelter in sheltered areas and bus stops to avoid getting wet.

Some people found the solution by wearing bags over their heads. There was congestion in traffic in some areas where the rain was effective. According to measurements, the highest rainfall was recorded as 57 kilograms per square meter in Darlık Village of Şile.

30 kilograms of precipitation was measured in Üsküdar, 26 kilograms in Eyüpsultan, and 21 kilograms in Şişli. The rain is expected to increase in the coming hours, with strong winds blowing at 20 to 50 kilometers per hour. It is estimated that thunder, lightning and heavy rains will be effective until 17.00 in the evening, especially around the Bosphorus on the European Side and the Anatolian Side, and light rains may be seen intermittently throughout the night.
