Flames cannot be extinguished in Spain: A national emergency has been declared

Forest fires in Spain got out of control due to the heat wave. The flames approached residential areas in the capital Madrid. The government declared a national emergency and asked for help from the EU.

At least 10 thousand people have been evacuated around Madrid so far. The wind increased the speed of the flames and the sky turned orange. Teams are racing against time to get the fire under control, which has been raging for days.

Three large fires broke out at the same time around Madrid and began to threaten residential areas. A NATIONAL EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED DUE TO THE FIRES. With the decision, the coordination of firefighting was transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also chaired the emergency meeting of the State Coordination and Guidance Committee. 10 THOUSAND PEOPLE WERE EVACUATED Madrid regional administration announced that at least 10 thousand people were evacuated from their homes.

A fire extinguishing plane was requested from the EU. Authorities announced that two of the three large fires had reached the point of convergence, while another was completely out of control. Fire crews are carrying out intensive extinguishing work in the west of Madrid.

More than 100 thousand hectares of land have been burned to ashes in Spain since the beginning of the year. The 32 thousand hectare fire that broke out in Guadalahara recently was recorded as the second largest forest fire in the country's history.
