President Volodymyr Zelensky met with U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker and Lieutenant General Curtis Buzzard, commander of the NATO Security Assistance and Training Mission for Ukraine, to discuss strengthening Ukraine's air defense. This is a critical priority now, as massive Russian attacks continue unabated, Zelensky said. The parties also discussed bilateral defense cooperation between the United States and Ukraine, including the implementation of President Donald Trump's decision, adopted in Ankara, to grant Ukraine a license to produce Patriot systems, as well as the Drone Deal, which the teams of both countries are currently working to finalize. "This has real potential, and we hope to get it finalized soon, Zelensky stressed.
During the meeting, Zelensky presented Lieutenant General Buzzard with the Order of Merit, Third Class. "Thank you for standing by our side through all these years of aggression. Ukraine is grateful to President Trump, the U.S. Congress, and the American people for their support, Zelensky said. As Ukrinform reported, Zelensky awarded the Order of Merit to Lieutenant General Curtis Buzzard, commander of the NATO Security Assistance and Training Mission for Ukraine and the Security Assistance Group – Ukraine.
