Alex Gibney's Elon Musk Documentary 'Musk' to Premiere at TIFF'

The film, which first screens in Venice days earlier, hits theaters October 16 via Bleecker Street and later debuts on HBO. TIFF's doc chief Thom Powers told The Hollywood Reporter that Musk holds "a Marvel villain-like level of power over our lives, and Gibney's film is "the most ambitious movie of his illustrious career" about him. Musk attacked the project on X in 2023, calling it "a hit piece, to which Gibney retorted, "How would you know?

The doc, based on interviews with Musk's colleagues, employees, and family, arrives after SpaceX's June IPO made Musk the world's first trillionaire. Other TIFF world premieres include Maiken Baird's "Edward Said: Between Worlds, Lacey Schwartz Delgado's "Re/Pair" on Black-Jewish relations, Rebeca Huntt's "Rapinoe" about Megan Rapinoe, James Marcus Hainey's "Black Sunflowers, Afsaneh Salari's look at plastic surgery in Iran, Barry Avrich's profile of Darlene Love, "Bleeding Hearts, and Barbara Kopple's "Union Town" about union drives against Amazon.
