Vedder and Hozier Among Mourners at Glen Hansard's Funeral

The service was held Tuesday at St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, with musical performances by friends and family. Mourners included The Edge, Steve Coogan, Imelda May, Paddy Casey, Declan O'Rourke, and Angeline Ball, who starred alongside Hansard in the 1991 film The Commitments. Representatives of Irish President Catherine Connolly and Taoiseach Micheál Martin also attended.

Hansard, long-time frontman of The Frames, shot to prominence in The Commitments. His widow, Finnish poet Maire Saaritsa, thanked her late husband "for the life we shared, searching for truth and beauty side by side, adding they found that in their three-year-old son, Christy. Vedder and Hansard's former partner Markéta Irglová performed "The Song of Good Hope, while Bono recited and sang U2's "Beautiful Day, urging the congregation to join in.

The coffin left to a rendition of Bob Dylan's "Forever Young. Hansard won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2008 with Irglová for the film Once. He released five solo albums, including 2023's All That Was East Is West Of Me, and started an annual Christmas Eve busk in Dublin in 2010. A public wake was held Monday at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
