Carter's Director's Cut of the X-files Film Gets R Rating and New Title

Chris Carter's director's cut of the 2008 film, now retitled The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankenshteyn and rated R, hits Disney+ and Hulu on Aug. 14.
The original PG-13 version drew mixed reviews, with critics calling it "baggy, draggy, oddly timed and strangely off the mark" (The New York Times), "basically TV writ large" (New York Post), and "in not knowing who it needs to please, I Want to Believe pleases no one" (Rolling Stone). Carter believes the PG-13 rating forced concessions that stymied the plot, so he reintroduced horror elements in the director's cut.
