Cate Blanchett has praised Prince William as an “extraordinary leader” in the fight against climate change, saying he inherited his passion from King Charles. The Oscar-winning actor, who serves on the Earthshot Prize Council founded by William, told Harper’s Bazaar UK that the prince is very hands-on in a consistent and practically engaged way. Blanchett, 57, also discussed her work with RSL Media, a not-for-profit tech firm she co-founded that lets creatives register whether they consent to AI companies scraping their work.

She noted the polarisation around AI and the central issue of consent. The actor, known for Elizabeth and Lord of the Rings, will star in the National Theatre’s Electra/Persona, alternating roles with Nina Hoss. Her Oscar wins include 2004’s best supporting actress for The Aviator and 2013’s best actress for Blue Jasmine. The full interview appears in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK, out 6 August.
