Phil Collins Praises Taylor Swift's 'White Horse' As 'Blowing Him Away
Phil Collins, 75, praised Taylor Swift, 36, on BBC Radio 2's Tracks of My Years, recalling how her 2010 performance of "White Horse" at the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction blew me away completely.
The Genesis drummer, introduced to Swift by his daughter Lily Collins, said the song's simplicity and beauty left him with a "soft spot" for it. He included the track on his list of 10 life-defining songs, alongside picks from The Beach Boys, The Who, The Beatles, and Stevie Wonder. Collins, inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003 and awarded the Johnny Mercer Award in 2010, recently spent seven months in intensive care after a relapse, revealing his kidneys "barely function" and his pancreas is permanently scarred.
He now uses crutches and has 24-hour live-in care, managing type 2 diabetes. Swift, who became the youngest woman inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June, said her songwriting talent was instinctual.
