Ed Sheeran's songwriting for Katseye's latest single "Animal" showcases his knack for crafting sticky pop hits, even when they're not for himself. The track, co-written with Johnny McDaid and producers Omer Fedi and Blake Slatkin, is one of the group's best, offering a catchy and spirited sound that could give them longevity in pop. Katseye, formed through the Netflix series Pop Star Academy, has yet to score a universal hit, though "Gabriela" peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Animal" features trading vocals on the chorus and a standout pre-chorus from Lara.
Sheeran reached out after hearing "Gnarly" while in Mexico, as he revealed on Instagram. The group noted the new single is more accessible than "Pinky Up, with Daniela saying it's the kind of song you'd hear at the grocery store or mall. Sheeran's track record includes writing "Love Yourself for Justin Bieber, which became a massive hit after he originally penned it for his album Divide.
