Anytime You See a Lower Body Extremity Injury, and in the Manner in Which Some of Those Happen, There's Always a Bad Possibility With It

Buffalo Bills head coach Joe Brady said Monday that safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson suffered a calf strain during Saturday's training camp practice, calling the diagnosis a "fortunate" outcome. "We're fortunate. Anytime you see a lower body extremity injury, and in the manner in which some of those happen, there's always a bad possibility with it.
But we got good news and we'll see how his body recovers, Brady said via the team's website. He declined to offer a return timetable, noting, "I'm not really big on expectations or timetables. Gardner-Johnson, who played for the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears in 2025, signed a one-year deal with Buffalo this offseason.
The Bills open their 2026 season at home against the Texans on Sept. 13.
