Former Second-round QB Surprisingly Not Claimed on Waivers

Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis has cleared waivers after being released by the Titans on Sunday. The Tennessee Titans made a bold move on Sunday when the decided to release quarterback Will Levis, moving forward instead with a two-man QB room of starter Cam Ward and former second-overall pick and long-time backup Mitchell Trubisky. Levis had long been considered a potential trade piece ever since the Titans selected Ward with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but a shoulder injury suffered in July 2025 sidelined him for the entire 2026 season – although given that Ward was healthy for the duration of the year, it is unlikely that Levis would have seen much time on the field.

Even more surprisingly, no team claimed the former Kentucky quarterback on waivers after he was cut. Former Titans QB Will Levis went unclaimed on waivers. Adam Schefter reported on Aug. 31. Levis showed out fairly well in the preseason, but it seemed clear fairly early on that Trubisky was being bought in as the experienced backup, and that the 27-year-old's time could be up very shortly in Tennessee.

The Titans would have no doubt preferred to trade the former 34th overall pick, rather than release him for nothing except around $750,000 in cap savings. But with no teams having the desire to simply add him to their active rosters heading into the season certainly reflects poorly on Levis.
