Heavy rain of over 300 mm pounded South Korea's Honam region and parts of South Chungcheong Province on July 31, leaving one person dead and two missing, with widespread flooding and property damage reported. In Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province, a 73-year-old farmer went missing while checking irrigation channels in a rice paddy, prompting a search by police and fire authorities. In Gochang, also in North Jeolla, a 67-year-old man disappeared while checking his blueberry farm submerged by swollen river waters.

Fire authorities suspended the underwater search late in the afternoon due to difficult conditions and plan to resume on August 1. Jeongeup received 99.6 mm of rain and Gochang 187.5 mm on the day. In Daegu, which saw 45.7 mm of rain the previous day, a man in his 70s drowned in Sincheon, an urban stream.
