Orhan Okulu Wins Gold Belt at 5Th Ulugazi Oil Wrestling Championships

The event, organized in collaboration with IBB's Youth and Sports Services Department and Spor Istanbul, saw around 500 wrestlers compete, including 64 chief wrestlers (başpehlivan). In the final match of the day, Okulu defeated Erkan Taş to claim the title of chief wrestler and the gold belt. Abdullah Güngör finished third, while Seçkin Duman took fourth place.

The tournament, first held between 1933 and 1938 and revived in 2021, featured many prominent chief wrestlers, including Yusuf Can Zeybek, İsmail Balaban, Recep Kara, Mehmet Yeşil Yeşil, Mustafa Taş, Fatih Atlı, and Ali Gürbüz. Approximately two thousand spectators watched the competitions from the stands. In addition to the chief wrestling category, the event included wrestling in 14 weight divisions: başaltı, büyükorta, küçükorta büyük, küçükorta küçük, deste büyük, deste orta, deste küçük, ayak, tozkoparan, teşvik 1, teşvik 2, minik 1, and minik 2, with winners determined in each category.

Thousands of Istanbul residents followed the event with great interest. The championships took place in Maltepe, Istanbul, Turkey.
