Praia Da Galé: a Perennial Algarve Favourite

Praia da Galé has been one of my favourite beaches in the Algarve for years. There are many beautiful beaches along the coast, but this is one I keep coming back to, and it also happens to bring together a few of my other Algarve favourites. Located west of Albufeira, Galé is divided into two parts, East and West, which are quite different from each other.

Galé West opens onto a long stretch of golden sand continuing towards Praia dos Salgados, while Galé East is surrounded by the beautiful rock formations that are so typical of this part of the Algarve. I usually prefer the eastern side. The rocks create little corners along the beach and, depending on the tide, small natural pools can form around them.

The beach has Blue Flag status and offers lifeguard surveillance, sunshade rentals, showers, parking, restaurants and watersports. Sea temperatures in summer are usually around 20–23°C. Another reason I love coming here is Pedras Amarelas. Located directly on the beach, it has been one of my favourite places for lunch for years.

Sitting on the terrace overlooking the ocean, enjoying good food and then going straight back to the beach is my idea of a perfect summer afternoon. And Galé is also home to my favourite Algarve summer event – the Full Moon Party. The event has been taking place at Praia da Galé for 28 years and has grown into one of Albufeira's established summer celebrations.

Everyone dresses in white, and the beach fills with music, performances and people enjoying the evening under the full moon. Written by Tereza Pedro.
