Anbernic Has Announced the Release Date and Pricing for Its RG 55G1, a Handheld Gaming Device That Closely Resembles Nintendo's Switch Lite

The device will be available to order starting August 31 at 6AM ET/3AM PT, with a starting price of $150. The RG 55G1 runs on Android 14 and is designed for emulating retro games, despite its visual similarity to the Switch Lite. It is powered by the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 chip, marking Anbernic's first use of Qualcomm hardware in its handhelds. This is the same processor found in the Retroid Pocket Classic, allowing the RG 55G1 to handle emulation of systems up to PS2 or Wii.

The device features a 5.5-inch display with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, which is higher than the Switch Lite's screen. It also includes two symmetrical Hall effect joysticks and offers a battery life of up to eight hours. Buyers can choose between black, indigo, and retro gray color options.

There are two storage configurations: a 4GB memory and 64GB storage model, or an 8GB memory and 128GB storage model. The top-spec model, which includes an extra 256GB microSD card, costs up to $225. Anbernic is offering a $10 discount for the first three days the RG 55G1 goes on sale. The company first revealed the device and its specifications in June.
