🇩🇪 GermanySince the Telecommunications Network Is Part of the Country's Critical Infrastructure, the Criminal Police Have Now Taken
A mobile phone mast in Zell unter Aichelberg, in the Göppingen district of Germany, has been damaged by unknown perpetrators. A technician discovered the damage to the mast at a height of about 37 meters on Friday, according to a police spokesperson. The investigators assume the act was deliberate.
Since the telecommunications network is part of the country's critical infrastructure, the criminal police have now taken over the investigation, the spokesperson added. Officers secured traces at the mast with the help of a fire department turntable ladder. The incident is not expected to have any noticeable impact on the public.
The property damage is estimated at around 4,000 to 5,000 euros. In addition to the telecommunications network, critical infrastructure in Germany also includes the electricity and water supply, as well as railway lines, airports, and waste disposal. A failure of these institutions could have far-reaching consequences for the daily lives of many people, which is why such facilities are meant to be given special protection.
