Three stretches of beach on the coast of Paraíba have been deemed unfit for swimming, according to a water quality report released Friday (28) by the state's environmental agency, Sudema. Two of the affected areas are in Pitimbu, and one is in João Pessoa. The report is based on samples collected between August 24 and 27 and remains valid until September 4, when the next report is scheduled to be released.

According to the environmental agency, the "unfit for swimming" classification applies exclusively to a 100-meter stretch to the right and left of each collection point. Outside this perimeter, beaches remain open for swimming until new data indicates a change in water quality. In total, Sudema monitors 62 points across the municipalities of João Pessoa, Pitimbu, Mataraca, Baía da Traição, Conde, Lucena, Cabedelo, and Rio Tinto.

The unfit stretches are: In João Pessoa: Penha, at Rua Ver. Mario Torres de Andrade.
