Detained in Istanbul Over Beauty Center Secret Recordings

Three suspects have been detained in Istanbul's Bakırköy district over allegations that a beauty center secretly recorded customers and sold access to the footage on social media platforms for a fee. Bakırköy District Police Department teams launched an investigation following a tip that customers' images were being secretly captured at a beauty and epilation center operating in the district, with the recordings being shown for payment via social media platforms. During a search of the business, authorities seized seven devices — one active and six dismantled — containing hidden camera setups, along with numerous digital materials.

The investigation found that 14,000 videos had been published on one platform. The business owner and two suspects who installed the camera system were taken into custody on charges of "violating privacy, "unlawfully obtaining personal data, and obscenity. Police procedures for the suspects are ongoing. The incident has raised concerns about privacy violations in the beauty industry, as authorities continue to examine the extent of the operation and the number of victims affected.
