Jeju Search Enters Second Day for Missing Soldier After Fishing Trip

A search operation entered its second day on Jeju Island for a missing soldier in his 20s, following a recent string of deaths involving missing persons on the island. According to the Seogwipo Police Station and the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters, a missing person report was filed at around 2:10 p.m. on the 28th, stating that a son working on Jeju was unreachable and that he had likely gone fishing. Police investigation, based on closed-circuit television footage, confirmed that the missing man, identified only as Mr. A, left his residence by car with fishing gear on the morning of the 27th.

His mobile phone signal was last detected near Haye Port in Seogwipo at around 3:30 p.m. that day, and his vehicle was found nearby. However, no fishing rods were found in the car. Police, fire services, and military units have been conducting searches around the area where the vehicle was discovered, but as of the afternoon of the 29th, the second day since the report, Mr. A had not been found.

Search teams have deployed helicopters, drones, boats, and rescue dogs, expanding the search area along the coastline. Mr. a junior military officer stationed on Jeju, was reportedly off duty on the day he went missing.
