The family of 15-year-old Ömer Mert Sökmen, who died in a traffic accident in Antalya, Turkey, has decided to donate his organs, giving life to seven people. Despite their grief, the family expressed pride in connecting other patients to life, saying, "Even though Ömer passed away, he gave life to other patients and continues to live in other bodies. Ömer Mert Sökmen was involved in a traffic accident in Korkuteli, Antalya, on April 5. He fought for his life for 20 days before succumbing to his injuries on April 24. His mother, Suna Sökmen, who works as a worker in a mushroom factory, and his father, Mehmet Sökmen, a bakery worker, made the decision to donate their son's organs during their most painful moment.
Ömer's heart, kidneys, and corneas were transplanted into five patients, while his liver was divided and transplanted into two patients. His mother, Suna Sökmen, said that her son's heart now beats in someone else's chest, and that his kidneys, liver, and corneas have become hope for others. Speaking about the loss of her child, Suna Sökmen said, "As a mother, I am very sad to have lost my child, but I am happy because he gave life to others. Instead of my son's organs rotting in the ground, they have become life for others.
