🇩🇪 GermanyGerman Ministers Urge Swift Afd Ban Proceedings

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Baden-Württemberg's state premier Cem Özdemir have called for a ban on the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, urging that proceedings be initiated as soon as possible. The two politicians made the appeal in a guest article for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, published shortly before the state election in Saxony-Anhalt. In their joint contribution, Pistorius and Özdemir argue that the AfD poses a threat to Germany's democratic order and that the conditions for a ban procedure are met.
They emphasize the urgency of the matter, stating that the process should be launched without delay. The call comes at a politically sensitive time, as voters in Saxony-Anhalt prepare to go to the polls.
