Starting in May 2027, the Carrier Will Also Add New Services From Olbia and Catania to New York Newark

United Airlines will restore its direct service between Milan and Washington, D.C., after a 24-year hiatus, making it the only carrier to fly the route nonstop. The American airline announced the new connection between Milan Malpensa Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport, with service set to begin on May 29. The route will complement United's existing Italy-U.S. network, which includes year-round daily flights from Milan Malpensa to New York Newark, nearly year-round service from Milan to Chicago O'Hare, seasonal connections from Rome to Denver and San Francisco, and seasonal flights from Naples, Venice, Palermo, and Bari to New York Newark. Starting in May 2027, the carrier will also add new services from Olbia and Catania to New York Newark.

With the expansion, United will operate up to 16 daily direct flights from Italy to the United States, linking eight Italian cities with U.S. destinations. Walter Cianciusi, United's country manager for Italy, said the offering "exceeds that of any other airline. Aldo Schmid, head of aviation business development at SEA, the operator of Milan's airports, said United is "returning to operate on this route after more than 24 years, restoring the connection with the federal capital of the United States and one of the airline's main hubs. He noted that from Dulles, passengers can reach over 110 destinations across the Americas, nearly 90 of them in the U.S. Schmid added that SEA is particularly pleased to continue collaboration with United Airlines, a historic partner that over the years has significantly contributed to the development of connections between Milan and the United States, through the established service to New York Newark and the more recent connection to Chicago.
