SANA Said: Mr. Mustafa Jalil Abdi Is Appointed As Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, Without Providing Further Details

Syria's transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa has appointed Mazloum Abdi, the commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as his adviser, days after Abdi announced the dissolution of the Kurdish-Arab militias. A decree signed by al-Sharaa and published Thursday by the state news agency SANA said: "Mr. Mustafa Jalil Abdi is appointed as adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, without providing further details. The appointment came two days after the SDF leader announced the group's dissolution at a press conference in Damascus following a meeting with the president.

Abdi defended the decision given the "historic moment" Syria is experiencing, saying: "We have closed an important page in Syria's history and are beginning to write a new one, whose motto is peace, stability, and the reconstruction of the homeland. The integration agreement, mediated by the United States, was signed on January 29 by al-Sharaa and Abdi after days of fighting due to a new offensive by security forces against Kurdish troops in the north and northeast of the country. The issue was one of the most delicate due to differences between the parties over how the integration should be carried out, amid Washington's calls for Damascus to maintain control of the entire territory and avoid any kind of autonomy in the hands of Kurdish authorities.

The dissolution of the militias was part of the integration agreement signed at the end of January with the ruler. The appointment comes as Syria's new authorities seek to consolidate control after the fall of the previous government, with the SDF integration seen as a key step toward unifying the country under a single state structure.
