Two people were killed in a stabbing attack at a school campus in Germany on Wednesday. The attack took place at the Docemus school campus in Gosen-Neu Zittau, in the Oder-Spree district of the state of Brandenburg. The victims were identified as an 18-year-old female student and a 30-year-old man.
According to a report by Welt, citing local sources, the 30-year-old was killed while trying to intervene in the attack. The suspect, a 19-year-old, is believed to be the former boyfriend of the 18-year-old student. It remains unclear whether the suspect was also a student at the same school.
Brandenburg police established a large-scale security presence at the campus following the incident. Authorities said they received numerous reports in the early afternoon and emphasized that the event was not a mass shooting. Police continued their investigation at the campus, and it was reported that a significant number of students were trapped inside the school during the incident.
Some students were held in the gymnasium and were expected to be safely handed over to their families. The school administration announced that classes would be canceled the following day. Police work at the scene and the investigation are ongoing.
The suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the attack. The school management said no classes would be held tomorrow. The suspect, aged 19, has been detained in connection with the incident. It was reported that the 30-year-old man was killed while trying to stop the attack.
