Seoul Mayor Rejects Plan to Hand Redevelopment Authority to Districts in South Korea

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon reiterated his opposition to the government and ruling party's push to delegate the authority to designate redevelopment zones of 500 households or fewer to district offices, calling it a political purpose that doesn't know what's happening on the ground. Speaking at a plenary session of the Seoul Metropolitan Council on the 27th, Oh dismissed claims that the city's concentration of designation authority creates bottlenecks, saying that aside from the urban planning committee review and integrated review for project approval, all other authority already rests with district offices.
