🇨🇴 ColombiaU.S. Southern Command Chief Visits Colombia to Discuss Anti-cartel Cooperation

U.S. Southern Command (Southcom) chief General Francis L. Donovan arrived in Colombia on Wednesday, August 26, to meet the country's new military leadership and discuss strengthening cooperation in the fight against drug cartels and narcoterrorism.
The U.S. military command announced the visit, highlighting Colombia as a historic Washington partner in counter-narcotics efforts and a key player in regional security. The trip follows Bogotá's entry into the Americas Coalition Against Cartels and comes amid a bolstered U.S. military presence in the region. Donovan recently announced the creation of a joint force with 18 Western Hemisphere countries tasked with coordinating military capabilities and maintaining constant pressure on criminal networks.
The mission also includes the possibility of providing humanitarian assistance and intervening in the event of disasters. Donovan's visit underscores the deepening security ties between the United States and Colombia, a longtime ally in the region.
