For those who missed it, Intel first introduced Hyper-Threading technology in Pentium 4 and Xeon processors in the early 2000s. Considering that the importance of this technology has decreased with the increase in the number of physical cores, the company has gradually abandoned the feature in recent years. New statements show that Intel is reconsidering this strategy.

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan made important statements at the investor meeting held within the scope of the company's 2026 second quarter financial results. Tan stated that Intel is working on various strategies to regain its lost share in both the corporate and consumer processor markets. One of the most striking steps of these plans was the return of Hyper-Threading technology.

Tan confirmed that concurrent multi-threading technology will be reintroduced with the Xeon 8 "Coral Rapids" processors. In addition, he said that Intel continues its efforts to increase single-core performance. For now, Intel has not made any statement about whether Hyper-Threading will return to desktop and laptop processors in server processors.

Therefore, it is not yet known whether the feature will be added to Core series processors in the future. The company started to reduce the use of Hyper-Threading with Alder Lake processors first introduced in 2021. In the Alder Lake family, which switched to hybrid core architecture, only performance cores offered Hyper-Threading support, while efficiency cores worked with a single thread. With the Arrow Lake-S processors introduced in 2024, Intel completely removed Hyper-Threading support on the consumer side. Intel's current Xeon 6 Granite Rapids processors can go up to 128 physical cores and 256 threads with Hyper-Threading supported performance cores.
