During the peak period of the tourist season, demand for communication and mobile internet services increases significantly. Security experts have uncovered fraud attempts targeting users purchasing mobile connections or SIM cards in different parts of the world. Cybercriminals aim to capture users' phone numbers, personal information and banking information by creating fake web pages that imitate the websites of major local and international telecom operators.

Security experts share various examples of these fake sites that mimic the login pages of legitimate telecom operators and offer suggestions on how users can protect against these traps. In the first example, fraudsters misuse the brand identity of an international telecommunications company operating in Asia, Africa and Europe. On the fake login pages, users are asked for their phone numbers and account login information.

While the first fake page differs from the original in terms of design, the second example imitates the real login page almost exactly. This makes it extremely difficult for users to distinguish a fake site. Entering account verification information or payment information on such fraudulent sites can lead to financial losses as well as the seizure of personal data and subsequently an increase in unwanted advertising calls and fraudulent calls.

In another example, fraudsters impersonate an international communications company operating in North Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. In this method, users are asked to enter their personal information and bank card information under the pretext of renewing their mobile data or internet packages. Security experts also identified another scam where cybercriminals appeared to trick users into inquiring and paying bills.
