Heart-lung Machine Used Successfully in Second Clinical Application at Gaziantep University in Türkiye

During the clinical study at Gaziantep University, one patient underwent a triple bypass surgery, while another had a heart valve replaced using a minimally invasive method. The device, which temporarily takes over the functions of the heart and lungs during open-heart surgeries, was reported to have been used successfully in both operations. GAÜN Rector Prof. Dr. Sait Mesut Doğan visited the patients and received information about their health conditions from Assoc.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karahan, head of the GAÜN Faculty of Medicine Department of Cardiovascular Surgery. Doğan emphasized the importance of conducting one of the device's clinical applications at Gaziantep University for the development of domestic and national health technologies. TÜSEB President Prof. Dr. Ümit Kervan stated that the heart-lung machine was developed over approximately three years with contributions from healthcare workers and engineers.
