Miklós Borsa Was Also Expected to Return As a Presenter After More Than Ten Years in Türkiye

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has criticized the relaunched public media, saying opposition voices dominate the airwaves while he has not been invited to appear. In a Facebook post, Magyar referenced the absurdist literature of István Örkény to describe the situation, claiming that the narrative on screen is far removed from reality. "In the relaunched public media, there is a Fidesz guest every day who hallucinates about tyranny, Magyar wrote." He noted that while opposition figures regularly get airtime on the public service channel, he has not received an invitation from the editorial staff.

"As prime minister, I have not yet been invited to the public media," he added. The criticism comes after the M1 news service was halted on July 7, when interim CEO András Horváth P. and his transitional leadership took over. The channel resumed broadcasting on Thursday at 6 a.m. after a 44-day hiatus.

In the first broadcast, the prime minister spoke twice in his own voice, the defense and culture ministers each spoke once, and no opposition politician appeared: the positions of Fidesz, KDNP, Mi Hazánk, and Péter Takács were read out. During the transition, Ádám Szeleczky was temporarily appointed as director of Duna channel, while the new interim MTVA leadership began restructuring the public media. Zsófia Mészáros is responsible for the online directorate, Balázs Bodacz heads the news directorate, György Kerényi leads Kossuth Radio, Péter Koltai takes over the CEO's cabinet, and Sára Teszáry is in charge of PR and marketing and will serve as spokesperson.

After the interim period, the permanent head of the public media will be selected through an open tender process following social and professional consultations. The renewed public media was set to launch the M1 Híradó with a new look in the second half of August, with Gábor Hajdú as editor-in-chief. Miklós Borsa was also expected to return as a presenter after more than ten years.
