The Reykjanes District Court Handed Down the Sentences After the Men Pleaded Guilty to the Charges

Two American citizens in their thirties were sentenced to five years in prison on Tuesday for attempting to smuggle 11 kilograms of marijuana into Iceland. The Reykjanes District Court handed down the sentences after the men pleaded guilty to the charges. The drugs were found in a suitcase belonging to one of the men when they arrived on a flight from Denver, United States.

The court determined that the men did not own the drugs but had agreed to transport them in exchange for payment. The men were arrested at Keflavík Airport on July 19 and remanded into custody the following day.
