The death toll from a fire at a chemical plant construction site in Russia's Amur Region has risen to seven, with nine people still unaccounted for, authorities said Wednesday. In a statement, the press service of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex said the bodies of four more Chinese nationals were recovered during search and rescue operations. The victims include one Russian and six Chinese citizens, bringing the total death toll to seven.

The fate of nine Chinese nationals who worked for the contractor remains unknown, and search and rescue efforts are ongoing. Following the incident, 152 people sought medical attention, and 36 people with injuries of varying severity were hospitalized. The fire at the construction site has been extinguished, and authorities said harmful substance levels in the air of nearby residential areas have not exceeded limit values. The Amur Gas Chemical Complex, being built by Russia's Sibur and China's Sinopec, is expected to be among the world's largest polymer and gas-chemical production facilities.
