In November, Voters Will Decide Whether Democratic State Rep

Everton Blair Jr. has won the special election runoff in Georgia's 13th Congressional District, securing the right to serve out the remaining months of the late Rep. David Scott's term, according to a projection from The Associated Press. Blair, the former chair of the Gwinnett County School Board, defeated Scott's daughter, Marcye Scott, in Tuesday's runoff.

The two had advanced after finishing first and second, respectively, among five candidates in the July 28 nonpartisan special election. Because Blair placed third in the May 19 Democratic primary for the full two-year term, he will only serve until the term ends in January. In November, voters will decide whether Democratic state Rep.

Jasmine Clark or Republican Jonathan Chavez will take over the full term beginning in January. The 13th District has historically been strongly Democratic. Scott won his 2024 re-election with about 72% of the vote, and then-Vice President Kamala Harris received about 71% of the vote in the district. Scott died in April after serving in Congress for over two decades.
