Maybe You Were a Bit Surprised Today: It Was Raining, and Sometimes Quite Heavily

Maybe you were a bit surprised today: it was raining, and sometimes quite heavily. After a long period of drought, more than a few millimeters of rain fell across the Netherlands today. With temperatures between 20 and 24 degrees it was noticeably cooler outside compared to yesterday's almost 30 degrees.

Monday has a little bit of both. There is still a chance of a few showers in the morning. Then it becomes dry in more and more places and the sun breaks through.

Again it is 20 to 24 degrees in the afternoon. Heat spreads across Europe. In the following days we leave the cooler weather behind and the temperature gradually rises.

That warm air flows from Southwestern Europe towards our environment. There, the drought, heat and wind still cause many problems when extinguishing and controlling various wild fires. During the week, the heat will spread further to Eastern Europe.

In France and Spain it remains warm as ever and there is hardly any cooling or rain on the way for the time being. Holidaymakers in Ireland, Scotland and Norway avoid the heat. In these countries, a westerly or northerly wind causes lower temperatures and there is sometimes a shower.

Below you can see drone images of the devastation caused by the wildfires in France: Wednesday will be the hottest day of the week for us with tropical temperatures of more than 30 degrees in much of the country. In the east and southeast it may even reach 35 degrees. It is cooler along the coast and on the Wadden Islands with temperatures around 25 degrees.

It is very sunny with a few small cumulus clouds every now and then. It will probably still be hot on Thursday, depending on when exactly the wind changes.
