Cybersecurity experts are warning mobile users about a new wave of data theft techniques, saying that many people choose phone passcodes that are far easier to crack than they realize. Recent research shows that numbers users believe are "random" often follow clear psychological patterns that hackers can exploit within minutes. According to security researchers, the most common trap is selecting sequences that are consecutive or visually simple on the keypad.
Analyses of hacker databases have identified the three most frequently cracked three-digit combinations: 1-2-3, the most obvious sequence on a keypad and often the first tried; 1-5-9, a diagonal line across the screen that visual memory favors but is easily guessed; and 0-0-0, a repeating pattern that brute-force software solves in seconds. The human brain tends to prefer patterns that ease finger movement rather than complex number strings. A stranger looking over your shoulder on a bus or in a café can memorize these three-digit combinations with a single hand movement. They also advise enabling biometric authentication, such as FaceID or fingerprint readers, as the primary lock method whenever possible. The warning comes as an urgent call to millions of users who believe their phones are protected from cyber thieves but may be making a critical mistake with their screen lock.
