Busan to Announce 20 Semifinalists in Pork and Rice Soup Contest Next Month in South Korea

Busan is launching a city-wide competition to crown the best pork and rice soup (dwaeji gukbap) restaurants, a signature local dish long disputed between Busan and Miryang in South Gyeongsang Province. From the 16th to the 29th, anyone can recommend their favorite pork and rice soup restaurant via the Busan Pork and Rice Soup Competition's Instagram, YouTube, or Google Form. On the 19th of next month, the city will announce 20 semifinalist restaurants.

Staff from those restaurants, food enthusiasts who made recommendations, and culinary experts will hold a 'gukbap meeting' to discuss each restaurant's soup characteristics, reasons for recommendations, and the diverse appeal of Busan's pork and rice soup. The meeting video will be edited and released to the public. The city said it will continue to discover the diverse culinary resources that Busan holds.
