In a post on social media, Erdogan said the operation demonstrated the power of the Turkish army to the world and declared that Turkey would not tolerate terrorism, conflict, or instability in the region. "On the anniversary of Operation Euphrates Shield, where we showed the power of our heroic army to the entire world and declared to friends and foes that we will not tolerate terrorism, conflict, and instability in our region, I commemorate our dear martyrs with mercy and our heroic veterans with gratitude," he said. The operation, launched by Turkey in 2016, targeted terrorist groups in northern Syria.
