The temporary validity of these documents is tied to the court order. Although the federal government ended TPS designations for Venezuela, the May 30 ruling allowed a specific group of beneficiaries to keep their permits. The termination of the 2023 designation took effect on October 3, 2025, after the Supreme Court allowed it to proceed, while the 2021 designation ended on November 7. Venezuelans under the 2023 TPS who do not have another benefit or process allowing them to remain legally in the country after October 2 will face consequences, including losing their immigration protection.

The program's end is part of a series of cancellations announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which also affected citizens of Haiti, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Cameroon, Nepal, Honduras, Nicaragua, South Sudan, Burma, Somalia, and Ethiopia. DHS issued a stark message on social media: For those with terminated TPS: leave now or be deported.
