Of These, 9 Detainees Had Their Remaining Prison Terms Waived, and 6 Had Their Prison Terms Reduced in Morocco

King Mohammed VI has granted a royal pardon to 634 people convicted by various Moroccan courts on the occasion of Eid Al Mawlid Annabawi, the Ministry of Justice announced. The beneficiaries include 619 individuals convicted by courts across the kingdom, divided into two main groups. Among the detained, 462 people received pardons: 13 prisoners had their remaining prison terms waived, while 449 had their prison or confinement terms reduced.

Among the free beneficiaries, 157 people were pardoned: 28 individuals had their prison sentences or remaining prison terms waived, 13 had their prison terms pardoned while keeping their fines, 112 had their fines annulled, and 4 individuals had both their imprisonment terms and fines annulled. Additionally, the king granted pardons to 15 prisoners convicted in cases of extremism and terrorism, who received royal approval after officially expressing commitment to the nation's principles and sacred values, as well as its national institutions, and after reconsidering their ideological views and rejecting extremism and terrorism. Of these, 9 detainees had their remaining prison terms waived, and 6 had their prison terms reduced. Royal pardons are customary in Morocco to mark national and religious holidays.
