According to TÜİK data, domestic tourists spent 10 billion 626 million 291 thousand liras on domestic travels for health purposes in the first quarter of the year. This was the first time that expenditures on health exceeded 10 billion lira. In the same period last year, this figure was 9 billion 876 million 993 thousand lira.
While 576 thousand trips were made for health, the number of overnight stays was 6 million 135 thousand and the average overnight stay was 10.6. In addition, 206 thousand trips, 494 thousand overnight stays and 2 billion 406 million 257 thousand liras were spent on trips for meetings, conferences, courses and seminars. In the commercial relations and fair category, 2 billion 220 million 221 liras were spent for 164 thousand trips.
Total expenditure for health, meeting and fair purposes was recorded as 15 billion 252 million 760 lira. According to the "household domestic tourism" data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) for the first quarter, domestic tourists spent 102 billion 312 million 286 thousand lira for domestic travel in the first quarter of the year. While visiting relatives, traveling and holidays are the main areas where these expenditures are concentrated, health has also become one of the important reasons for citizens to travel.
In this regard, 576 thousand domestic trips were made for health in the first quarter of last year. The number of overnight stays for these trips was 6 million 135 thousand, and the average number of overnight stays was 10.6. While the total value of travel expenditures for health tourism in the first quarter of last year was 9 billion 876 million 993 thousand liras, this value exceeded 10 billion liras for the first time in the first quarter of the year.
The expenditures in question were calculated as 10 billion 626 million 291 thousand lira in the January-March period. On the other hand, the number of trips made for the purpose of "meetings, conferences, courses, seminars" was 206 thousand in the same period. While the number of overnight stays for this purpose was 494 thousand, the average number of overnight stays was recorded as 2.4. In the same period, the value of expenditures made on trips for meetings and other reasons was calculated as 2 billion 406 million 257 thousand lira.
