LG Has Lost Some Trust After a Recent Report Revealed That Some of Its Monitors Installed Mcafee Pop-up Ads Onto Connected Computers

Ads and tracking have turned smart TVs into privacy nightmares, and now computer monitors are following the same troubling path. Monitors have become increasingly capable of pushing advertisements and tracking users, encroaching into smart-TV-like territory without straightforward vendor safeguards such as comprehensible privacy policies and appropriate ad practices. LG has lost some trust after a recent report revealed that some of its monitors installed McAfee pop-up ads onto connected computers. Since at least 2024, certain displays have installed an app called LG Monitor App Installer onto connected PCs under the cover of driver updates delivered through Windows Update.
