Gardaí are treating the death of Brazilian woman Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa in Limerick as a murder-suicide after the body of the chief suspect was later found. Around 12 hours later, the body of the chief suspect, named locally as Judismar Weslei Batista, also from Brazil, was recovered near Blackrock Castle in Co Cork.

Pereira Rosa (32) and Batista, who was aged in his 30s, had been in a long-term relationship and were sharing the apartment where the woman was found dead. It is understood their relationship had broken down recently. According to a friend, Pereira Rosa and Batista met when they were teenagers and were married for more than a decade.

They moved to Ireland in 2021 and, while the relationship broke down about three months ago, they continued to live in the apartment together, the friend said. It is understood friends had been waiting for Pereira Rosa outside the apartment building to go to work together last Friday morning when Batista walked out and told them she would be down from the apartment shortly. She had been working for a cleaning company in Limerick.

However, when Pereira Rosa did not appear, her friends raised the alarm. Gardaí and paramedics came to the scene and Pereira Rosa was pronounced dead inside the apartment. It is understood she had suffered stab injuries.
