ASELSAN is expanding its investments to bring design, prototyping, and mass production capabilities for critical defense sub-technologies into a single ecosystem. General Manager Ahmet Akyol, speaking at TEKNOFEST Mavi Vatan, detailed the company's new work in quantum technologies, semiconductors, satellite systems, electro-optical detectors, and underwater technologies. Akyol stated that Türkiye's quantum chips are designed by ASELSAN, with the next phase being to establish the production infrastructure for these technologies.
A production facility called Kuantum-Fab is being set up at ASELSAN's new campus, aiming to produce circuits for quantum computers. This investment marks a move beyond electronic design and R&D activities, allowing ASELSAN to develop critical circuits needed for quantum systems in its own production infrastructure. Another focus is chips used in defense electronics.
Akyol noted that Türkiye's military chips can be both designed and produced by ASELSAN. This capability is important for reducing dependence on external supply in critical defense technologies such as radar, electronic warfare, electro-optical, and communication systems. Expanding chip production infrastructure could also help keep the supply chain for critical electronic components in Türkiye.
ASELSAN is also working on LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellite constellation projects. Akyol announced that new facilities have been established to mass-produce military LEO satellites. Constellation architectures, where multiple satellites work together, can provide broader coverage for communications, reconnaissance, surveillance, and other missions.
These investments show ASELSAN's aim to move from single-satellite projects to higher-volume production capacity. In electro-optical technologies, ASELSAN has reached the prototype level in producing cooled and uncooled detectors. Akyol said a mass production facility is now being built.
These detectors are critical components used in thermal imaging systems, electro-optical sensors, and various defense applications. Underwater systems are also among ASELSAN's investment areas. Akyol said the company is working on next-generation sonar technologies and fiber-optic based sonar systems.
These developments aim to enhance Türkiye's capabilities in submarine detection, underwater surveillance, and monitoring critical underwater infrastructure. ASELSAN's maritime investments are also accelerating, with a new facility being built in Gölcük alongside the existing one, plus a new center for testing sonar, radar, torpedo, and underwater systems. The company announced approximately 60 million euros in additional investment for 3 facilities and 2 test devices.
Taken together, ASELSAN's quantum, chip, satellite, detector, and sonar investments show the company's focus expanding from developing final defense systems to also producing the critical technologies these systems require in Türkiye. A comment was submitted and will be published after approval.
