India's electricity demand is projected to more than double over the next decade, but its rapid expansion of solar, wind, storage and nuclear power means Nepal cannot assume it will remain a captive market for its hydropower. As India scales up its renewable and nuclear capacity, the window for Nepal to secure a long-term export market for its hydropower may be narrowing. The analysis suggests that while demand growth offers an immediate opportunity, India's own generation build-out could reduce its reliance on imported power in the future.
