Former Banker Seeks N1.9m Every Three Months for Post-transplant Drugs

For Mrs Kehinde Oluwatoyin Ugbede, a former banker whose career was cut short by kidney failure, a successful kidney transplant in March 2026 offered what she described as a second chance at life. But four months after the life-saving surgery, Ugbede says the battle is far from over as she struggles to raise about N1.9 million required every three months to purchase immunosuppressant drugs needed to keep her transplanted kidney functioning. The Economics graduate of the University of Abuja is appealing to kind-hearted Nigerians, Nigerians in the diaspora, corporate organisations, religious bodies, community groups and other public-spirited individuals to support her financially.

Ugbede underwent the transplant at Zenith Medical and Kidney Centre, Abuja, after years of living with kidney failure, undergoing repeated dialysis and battling the financial burden associated with her condition. She said her health challenges began just two months after her marriage in 2008 and lasted for about nine years before the transplant became necessary. By Joseph Erunke, Abuja.
