🇮🇸 IcelandVíkingur Played With Great Confidence and Now Sit on 51 Points From 20 Matches in Iceland
Víkingur Reykjavík restored their eight-point lead at the top of the Besta deild karla, Iceland's top football division, with a 2-0 win over Valur on Saturday. The victory came after KR had beaten KA 3-5 earlier in the day, which had cut Víkingur's advantage to five points. Víkingur played with great confidence and now sit on 51 points from 20 matches.
Valur remain in eighth place with 23 points, with two matches left before the league splits. The team still has a chance to finish in the upper half. Valdimar Şór Ingimundarson put Víkingur ahead after 48 minutes.
Karl Friğleifur and Hrannar Snær combined down the right wing, with Hrannar finding Valdimar alone in the middle of the box. The Árbær native took a touch and scored confidently into the corner. It was his seventh goal in 19 matches.
Hrannar Snær had a golden chance to double the lead in the 55th minute but missed. Assistant coach Aron Baldvin Şórğarson was shown a red card for dissent in the 64th minute.
