🇹🇷 TürkiyeTurkish Parliamentary Commission Has Highlighted the Risks Children Face in the Digital World, Warning That a Seemingly Innocent Buy

Experts say children are far more vulnerable than adults when shopping online. The report from the commission, established by parliament to investigate violence and abuse against children, also addressed the digital sphere. It recommended strengthening mechanisms such as age verification, parental controls, and content filtering to protect children in digital environments.
According to the report, the risks are not limited to financial losses. Sharing personal data, fake campaigns, unreliable sellers, and exposure to products and content unsuitable for children's ages are among the other dangers of digital shopping. The commission's approach is not to remove children from the digital world entirely, but to make it safer for them.
To that end, the report recommends placing greater responsibility on platforms, strengthening protective mechanisms for children, and increasing families' digital literacy. Children are increasingly seen as a target audience not only on social media and in games but also on shopping screens. Digital methods that push children to make quick decisions and spend money can turn shopping into a game.
